Sweet Cinnamon Bacon Twists (Print Version)

Crispy bacon coated in cinnamon-sugar mixture, baked until perfectly caramelized. Ready in 35 minutes.

# Ingredient List:

→ Bacon

01 - 12 slices thick-cut bacon

→ Spiced Sugar Mixture

02 - 1/3 cup light brown sugar, packed
03 - 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
04 - 1/8 teaspoon cayenne pepper

# Steps:

01 - Preheat oven to 350°F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or foil and place a wire rack on top.
02 - In a shallow dish, combine brown sugar, cinnamon, and cayenne pepper until evenly blended.
03 - Press each bacon slice into the sugar mixture, turning to coat both sides thoroughly.
04 - Twist each coated bacon slice several times to create a spiral shape. Arrange twists on the wire rack with space between each piece.
05 - Sprinkle any remaining spiced sugar mixture over the twisted bacon strips.
06 - Bake for 25 to 30 minutes until bacon is crisp and caramelized. Rotate the baking sheet halfway through for even browning.
07 - Let twists cool on the rack for 5 minutes so the caramelized coating hardens before serving.

# Helpful Hints:

01 -
  • The sweet-salty contrast is borderline addictive, especially with that hint of cayenne warmth.
  • It transforms ordinary bacon into something special without any complicated techniques or hard-to-find ingredients.
02 -
  • Watch the oven closely in the last five minutes, sugar can go from caramelized to burnt quickly.
  • Use a wire rack, not just parchment, or the bacon will sit in its own grease and turn soggy instead of crisp.
03 -
  • Line your baking sheet with foil for easier cleanup, the sugar will harden and stick as it cools.
  • Twist the bacon tightly so the spirals hold their shape and create more surface area for the sugar to cling to.
